Iman reveals she postponed her grief to support David Bowie’s daughter

Iman explained that she set aside her own sorrow following David Bowie’s death to support their daughter, Alexandria “Lexi” Jones, who was 15 at the time. The model reflected on this period in an interview published on Saturday, September 19, by People.

The singer’s widow shared that she first had to confront the grief of their teenage daughter. Under these circumstances, she said, she could not fully focus on her own pain. “My grief came later,” she summarized in this conversation held in New York during the gala celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the organization (RED).

Iman describes this journey as a personal experience. According to her account, she later allowed herself to navigate through the sadness without letting it erase the happy memories of the couple. She stated that she now seeks to remember David Bowie with joy, while acknowledging that his absence remains palpable.

David Bowie passed away on January 10, 2016, at the age of 69, after keeping his illness a secret for eighteen months. Iman and the musician met in 1990 and married in 1992. Their daughter Lexi was born in August 2000.

The model had previously told Vanity Fair in 2021 that the lockdown had given her the time to confront her grief more directly at their country home. She had transformed several memories of the couple into a fragrance named Love Memoir.

On January 10, 2026, to mark the tenth anniversary of Bowie’s death, Iman also revealed a tattoo on her wrist. Inspired by the artwork of the album Blackstar, the design uses stars to form the name “Bowie,” as reported by Billboard.
