SUMMARY
“If you find the time, pray for me.” These were the heart-wrenching words Sonia Annick Agbantou said to her lifelong friend Dah Adagboto, in one of their last conversations exchanged in early June 2025.
This intimate message, made public the day after her death, resonates now as a posthumous call, a sincere request for spiritual support for the woman who made a mark on the digital and media landscape of Benin.
“I realize so many things. The testimonies of appreciation for what I do, not for me but for what I do, build me up, astonish me. Pray for me. I don’t know, I ask you from the bottom of my heart. If you find the time, pray for me,” we can hear Sonia declare.
A pioneer of vlogging
Sonia Annick Agbantou passed away on the night of Sunday, June 22, to Monday, June 23, 2025, victim of a heart attack in her apartment in France. An emblematic figure of the new generation of presenters, she made a name for herself as the first recognized vlogger in Benin, paving the way for many content creators.
Known to the general public through her live streams and powerful chronicles on the SONIA TV page, she managed to create a space for free expression, born out of her initial professional frustrations at ORTB where she felt undervalued.
Encouraged and supported by Dah Adagboto, her faithful accomplice, Sonia built a vision, an editorial line, and a digital legacy that continue to inspire. “She paved a model,” he bears witness, moved, pleading that a conference room in the Ministry of Digital and Digitalization someday bear her name.
In addition to her media engagement, Sonia Agbantou was also a Vodun priestess, who always proudly affirmed her spiritual choices. “If you cannot celebrate her life, I ask you at least to respect her memory.” Dah Adagboto reminded those who question her religious journey.
Their complicity, widely shared on social networks, has found a new dimension in this tribute message where Dah reveals exchanges of rare authenticity. In these last words, Sonia expressed her astonishment at the fruits of her actions, while still doubting her own capabilities. “I don’t understand how I could achieve this in my life once.”
Today, Dah Adagboto is inconsolable. “Sonia still lives in me. And she will live through all of us”, he stated. In their WhatsApp conversations, presenter Sonia also expressed her intention to return to Benin in July 2025.
