President Patrice Talon has made universal access to drinking water a pillar of social development and the fight against deprivation in his Government Action Program (PAG). During the recent Council of Ministers meeting, the government announced the construction of four Multi-Village Drinking Water Supply Systems (SAEPmV) in several municipalities.

For the execution of the works, a Chinese company would be selected, according to information obtained from credible sources by LaMarinabj.

This selected Chinese company will carry out the construction, commissioning and technical monitoring of the installations, while the Beninese State, through the Agence Nationale d’Approvisionnement en Eau Potable en Milieu Rural (ANAEPMR), will ensure supervision and the proper execution of the works.

The choice of this foreign partner is explained, according to the government, by its recognized expertise in delivering large-scale hydraulic infrastructure, but also by the desire to strengthen technical cooperation between the two countries; a cooperation already fruitful in the sectors of infrastructure, energy and hydraulics.

This project marks an important step toward achieving the goal of universal access to drinking water by 2030, while illustrating Benin’s strategy of combining performance, cooperation and sustainability in its major public works.
