DRC: 13 dead in military plane crash near Kenge
Thirteen people were killed on Friday, September 25, 2026, in the crash of a military aircraft in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to local authorities. The plane was en route from Kikwit to Kinshasa when it encountered a technical problem.
SUMMARY
The crew reportedly attempted an emergency landing near Kenge, in the Kwango province. Lacking a suitable runway, the aircraft crashed into a residential area, stated the province’s deputy governor, Rémy Saki Bokinda.
All individuals on board perished. Among the victims were General Likulia Bakumi, the army’s auditor general, as well as a major, a captain, other military personnel, and civilians.
Twelve bodies were found burned beyond recognition, while the pilot’s body was discovered outside the aircraft, according to provincial authorities.
An investigation has been launched into the causes of the crash
The Congolese authority responsible for investigating air accidents announced the initiation of inquiries to determine the exact circumstances of the crash and the nature of the technical failure reported prior to the incident.
This incident occurs as the Congolese army remains heavily engaged on multiple fronts, particularly in the eastern part of the country. However, at this stage, there is no evidence linking the accident to a military operation or hostile act.
