The operation was launched the day before, Monday, July 7, following information about the transportation, from Nigeria, of fraudulent pharmaceuticals intended for Benin. According to the statement from the Republican Police, the suspicious vessel was initially supposed to dock at a landing in Mèdédjonou.

Given the seriousness of the information received, a team was deployed upon the commissioner’s instruction. However, the traffickers, seemingly aware of the operation, changed their route to disembark at Lindja, an unauthorized site in the commune of Dangbo.

Traffickers fleeing, evidence seized

Despite this diversion attempt, law enforcement was able to locate and secure the unloading point. Several bags containing a total of 435 kilograms of medicines were seized. Upon police arrival, the traffickers fled, leaving behind two Bajaj brand motorcycles and a mobile phone.

All of the evidence has been sealed. Investigations are currently underway to identify the perpetrators of the trafficking. Once apprehended, they will be presented to the competent court to answer for the charges against them.

The Republican Police reiterates its determination to fight against parallel distribution channels of medicines, with the aim of protecting public health.
