Bilateral Cooperation: Benin and Serbia Sign a Mutual Visa Exemption Agreement
As part of strengthening diplomatic relations between Benin and Serbia, a significant meeting was held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in Cotonou between the foreign ministers of the two countries.

SUMMARY
On an official visit to Benin, the head of Serbian diplomacy, Marko Djurić, was welcomed by his Beninese counterpart, Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, for a series of discussions focusing on bilateral cooperation.
At the heart of this audience, the two diplomats explored several areas of strategic partnership, including defense, security, tourism, sport, and education.
The meeting was marked by the signing of a mutual visa exemption agreement for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This agreement will allow these categories of travelers to visit either of the two countries without a visa, thereby facilitating institutional mobility and official exchanges.
Concrete commitments for education and youth
Speaking at a joint press conference, Serbian Minister Marko Djurić praised Benin’s development efforts as well as the hospitality of the Beninese people. He particularly highlighted the leadership of President Patrice Talon, whom he described as a “model of governance and stability”.
In the same vein, the Serbian minister announced scholarship opportunities for Beninese students wishing to continue their studies in Serbia. He also expressed the desire to see Serbian students come to study and work in Benin, thus laying the foundations for dynamic educational cooperation.
It should be noted that Marko Djurić has become the first Serbian foreign minister to make an official visit to Benin, a symbolic event that embodies the two states’ desire to build a lasting and mutually beneficial partnership.
With this initiative, Benin and Serbia are embarking on a new era of diplomatic rapprochement, based on trust, openness, and reciprocity.
