Benin: vaccination records no longer checked at borders
Since September 16, 2026, no checks of vaccination records, particularly for yellow fever, are conducted at entry points in Benin. Vaccination, however, remains recommended.
Travelers entering Benin are no longer subject to checks of their vaccination records at the country’s entry points. This measure, announced on September 16, 2026, by the Ministry of Health, applies to the airport, the port, and land borders.
The ministry describes this decision as a relaxation of health control procedures at the borders. It specifies that no checks of vaccination records, particularly for yellow fever, are now conducted upon arrival in Benin.
This change pertains to checks at entry points and does not eliminate the health recommendation. Beninese authorities indicate that vaccination against yellow fever remains recommended for all travelers, in accordance with the International Health Regulations of 2005.
The measure is also reflected on Benin’s official e-Visa platform, which outlines the new provisions for travelers. It clarifies the absence of record checks at the border while maintaining the vaccination recommendation.
The World Health Organization recommends yellow fever vaccination for travelers aged nine months and older who are visiting areas where the virus is present. It reminds that under the International Health Regulations, each state can decide whether or not to require proof of vaccination for entry into its territory.
The Ministry of Health notes that Benin reserves the right to modify these procedures again in the event of an international public health emergency.
