Benin: Three new judges take office at the Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of Benin is bolstering its staff. Three new members officially took office on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, within the highest administrative jurisdiction.

These are Cosme Ahoyo and Éric Déwèdi, appointed as counselors, as well as Bernardin Hounyovi, installed in the role of Attorney General.
The three high magistrates had been appointed during the Council of Ministers on May 28, 2025. Their swearing-in took place during two separate solemn hearings, in accordance with the requirements of the prevailing judicial procedure. These hearings were presided over by Victor Dassi Adossou, President of the Supreme Court.
As tradition demands, the counselors’ oath was received on the requisition of the Attorney General at the Supreme Court, while the installation of the Attorney General was overseen by the Minister of Justice and Legislation, Yvon Détchénou, acting as the Public Ministry.
Before the swearing-in, the legal texts and the appointment decrees were read at the hearing. These formalities underscore the rigorous and solemn nature of joining the supreme jurisdiction.
Welcoming the new members’ inauguration, President Victor Dassi Adossou congratulated the appointees for their exemplary professional path and officially sent them off to fulfill their duties.
This new stage for the Supreme Court reflects the will of the Beninese authorities to enhance justice efficiency, by providing the highest jurisdictions of the country with seasoned and experienced profiles.
