Benin: police dismantle a network of alleged robbers in Kalalé
An operation by the Republican police resulted in the arrest of several individuals suspected of being involved in armed robberies in the commune of Kalalé, specifically in the districts of Dérassi, Bouca, and Dunkassa.

The incidents occurred midweek, within the premises of the livestock market in Dérassi, a major commercial hub popular in the region.
According to information from the Dérassi police station, six suspicious individuals were spotted as they discreetly followed traders, arousing the suspicions of law enforcement officers.
This behavior deemed suspicious was interpreted as a preparatory phase for a targeted attack. Quickly dispatched to the scene, a team of policemen arrested four of the suspects, who were then taken to the police station for questioning.
Searches conducted at their residences led to the seizure of two homemade rifles, 12 mm caliber cartridges, three damaged money boxes, psychotropic products, and various suspicious objects: clubs, bladed weapons, talismans and personal belongings whose origin remains to be clarified.
During preliminary hearings, the arrested individuals admitted their involvement in similar criminal operations. They also provided crucial information about other presumed members of the network, thus facilitating the expansion of the investigation.
The investigation continues under the supervision of local police authorities. The goal, according to the Dérassi police station, is to completely dismantle the criminal network that is rife in this border area that is subject to recurring acts of banditry.
