Benin: military personnel in front of Criet in a case of sale of military uniforms

- Publicité-

The Court for the Suppression of Economic Offenses and Terrorism (CRIET) opened, Thursday, June 5, 2025, the trial of eight individuals prosecuted for abuse of function and complicity in abuse of function.

Among the defendants are six military personnel and two civilians, all summoned to appear before the correctional judge. At the call to the stand, the military personnel pleaded not guilty. However, two of them admitted to having sold military uniforms, specifying that these were sold to other soldiers, not civilians.

The two civilian defendants, on their part, denied any involvement in the charges against them. The day’s hearing was brief, limited to the formal accusation of the defendants and the establishment of the defense lawyers. At the end of this introductory phase, the Court decided to adjourn the case to July 3, 2025, for further proceedings.

This adjournment should allow the defendants to better prepare their defense in an attempt to establish their innocence.
