Benin – 2026 Presidential Election: NDSS
One year before the presidential election in Benin, lines are beginning to move within the ranks of the opposition. Recently invited on the set of Eden TV, the lawyer and political actor Nourou-Dine Saka Saley confirmed his intention to run for the nomination of the Les Démocrates party for the 2026 presidential election.

During the program, the former legal advisor declared:
“Those who call me to be a candidate, I listen to them.”
Speaking to journalist Doncklam Abalo, the person in question insisted on the need for a transparent and fair nomination process within the main opposition party. For him, the future of the party founded by former president Boni Yayi depends on the democratic rigour of its internal choices.
“If it’s unclear, I won’t commit,” he warned, calling for avoidance of any form of masquerade or disguised exclusion in the party’s candidate selection process.
With this declaration, Nourou-Dine Saka Saley positions himself as a willing candidate of the party but determined to defend a certain idea of internal democracy. He thus conditions his commitment to the clarity of the process, while saying he is ready to answer the call of his supporters.
In any case, this position marks a turning point in the pre-electoral dynamics within Les Démocrates, and could contribute to opening a substantive debate on leadership and method within the country’s main opposition formation.
