Facing journalists Sosthène Fadaïro and Aziz Adam Soulé, he explained that 32 applications had been received as of June 13, coming from various countries. Among them were 6 experts from Benin, 5 French, 4 Nigeriens, 3 Ivorians, as well as candidates from Togo, Mali, Senegal, the DRC, Italy, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Guinea Conakry, and Canada.

“The examination of the applications was entrusted to a technical commission, which worked from June 16 to 25,” said Mr. Elias.

The selection report, made public in the daily La Nation and broadcasted on social networks, resulted in the designation of four international experts, selected for their technical profile and proven experience in the electoral field.

Justifying the choice to resort to foreign expertise, Jean-Baptiste Elias stressed the complexity of the task:

“This is a scientific work that requires certain expertise. Not just anyone can perform an electoral audit. It requires skills, solid training, and genuine experience,” he emphasized.

The four experts are expected in Cotonou this same Sunday, July 6. Their mission will consist of conducting a thorough analysis of the electoral roll ahead of the dual presidential and legislative vote planned in 2026.

In the interest of transparency, the Copil president announced that he has sent official letters to all political parties, whether they are from the movement or the opposition, to invite them to a meeting with the auditors. This step aims to involve all political forces in the process and to strengthen the credibility of the exercise.
