Unidentified armed individuals, suspected of belonging to a terrorist organization, targeted the temporary police station set up in the premises of the Kouarfa district.

According to information collected by Banouto, the assault began around 11 PM with heavy gunfire that spread panic in the locality. By 5 AM, the attackers set fire to the premises of the district which was temporarily acting as a police station.

Images captured by residents in the early hours of the day still showed the intensity of the flames.

Alerted, law enforcement quickly deployed reinforcements to support the agents already on site. To date, no deaths or injuries have been reported according to the initial information available.

From the Republic’s police side, details remain limited for the time being. Investigations are ongoing to assess the extent of the damage and identify the perpetrators of this concerning attack, which re-raises the question of security in the sensitive areas of northern Benin.
