AFCON 2025: Uganda warns Nigeria and Tunisia
On the eve of AFCON 2025, Ugandan striker Melvyn Lorenzen says the Cranes are ready to give the favourites in Group C a hard time and to play the spoilers in Morocco.

Ugandan striker Melvyn Lorenzen sent a clear message to the big names in Group C ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations: Uganda will not be making up the numbers in Morocco. The Cranes will compete in a tough group alongside Nigeria, Tunisia and Tanzania, a group on paper dominated by the Super Eagles, runners-up in the last edition in Ivory Coast, and by a Tunisian side that is always formidable at major continental tournaments.
Led by Paul Put, the Ugandan side will begin their campaign against Tunisia next Tuesday, before taking on Tanzania, their regional rival, and then Nigeria. A demanding schedule, but one Lorenzen faces without complexes.
«Even against the big nations, we’ve always shown up. We’ve never been dominated, we’ve always held our own», the striker told the official website of the Uganda Football Federation. « I honestly think any team will struggle against us. It’s time to prove it again.» Determined to defy the predictions, the Cranes plan to rely on their solidarity and collective discipline to shake up the hierarchy and carve a path to the knockout stage.
