Semi-finalists at the last edition, the DRC approaches AFCON 2025 with ambition but caution, determined to get through the group stage before dreaming bigger. The Leopards are placed in Group D alongside Benin, Botswana and Senegal. A tough group for the Congolese, where the Lions of Teranga and the Cheetahs appear as the main rivals.

But for coach Sébastien Desabre, the danger would come from the Botswana side, which he sees as the biggest threat to his team. « I am convinced that the match against Botswana will be more difficult than the one against Senegal », he said in remarks relayed by Africatopsports. The Leopards begin their campaign on December 23 against Benin. An uncertain duel even if Cnancel Mbemba’s charges are slight favorites.

« We are very excited at the idea of playing in the AFCON again and reliving those emotions, like in Ivory Coast. The main thing will be to be ready for the first match against Benin. It is always important for confidence, even if it is not decisive on its own », Desabre concluded, urging his men not to underestimate any opponent. See you in a week at the El Barid Stadium in Rabat for the finale.
