AFCON 2025: Benin’s Cheetahs officially set off for the Moroccan challenge
Gathered in Rabat, the Beninese players received the national flag from the hands of the Minister of Sports, a symbolic gesture marking the start of their mission at the Africa Cup of Nations 2025.
A few days before their kick-off at the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, the Benin Cheetahs received the Beninese flag on Thursday in Rabat during a solemn ceremony held at the Benin embassy in Morocco. Present with the delegation, Minister of Sports Benoît Dato handed the national emblem to captain Steve Mounié. A powerful gesture, traditionally associated with commitment, responsibility and the pride of representing an entire nation on the African stage. The players, gathered around their leader, showed a determined resolve to proudly carry Benin’s colors.
For its fifth appearance in the Africa Cup of Nations finals, Benin finds itself in a particularly tough Group D. Gernot Rohr’s men will begin their campaign on December 23 against the Democratic Republic of the Congo, then face Botswana on December 27, and Senegal on December 30 to close out the group stage. In a highly competitive context, this ceremony marks the official start of an ambitious challenge for the Cheetahs, eager to make their mark in Morocco and confirm the progress seen in recent years.
