2026 World Cup: Senegal will face Argentina in a friendly
Senegal will play several friendly matches, notably against Lionel Messi’s Argentina, as part of the preparations for the 2026 World Cup, the country’s football federation announced.
Seeking its second continental title, Senegal is actively preparing for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which opens in a few days in Morocco. At the same time, the Teranga Lions are also gearing up for the 2026 World Cup. Drawn into Group I, Sadio Mané’s side will notably face Kylian Mbappé’s France and Erling Haaland’s Norway. Major opponents that the Senegalese will have to overcome if they hope to win their first title in this competition.
And to achieve this goal, the Senegalese Football Federation is already negotiating friendly matches to better prepare its team. While it had announced a friendly against the United States on May 31, 2026, at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte (North Carolina), the FSF has informed the sporting public that it has reached an agreement with the Argentine Federation for a match against Lionel Messi’s Albiceleste and another against Saudi Arabia in March.
“Proposals from Saudi Arabia and Argentina are being finalized for the March 2026 FIFA window”, the Senegalese body announced in an official statement. For the record, the 2026 World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19 2026 and will be jointly organized by the United States, Canada and Mexico,
