It all began after the recent death of their mother, a palm oil producer. While inventorying her belongings, the children discovered a large quantity of unsold oil.

They then decided to sell it. The sale raised about four million CFA francs, an amount entrusted to the elder brother pending what was expected to be a fair division among the heirs.

According to early findings of the investigation, the elder brother allegedly had other intentions. He reportedly went to the field to meet his younger brother, under the pretext of a discussion about the inheritance. That is where the tragedy occurred.

Investigators suspect him of having struck his younger brother with a violent blow. The man then allegedly tried to conceal the act by burying the body in a pit he is said to have dug at the scene.

He was arrested while attempting to urgently sell his missing brother’s motorcycle. This clandestine transaction raised suspicions. Caught in the act, he was taken to the police station of the central district of Zè, where investigations made it possible to trace the presumed circumstances of the crime.

The case is causing a stir in the municipality, both for its family dimension and the brutality of the events. Authorities are continuing legal proceedings while the community remains in shock, torn between incomprehension and consternation.
