University of Abomey-Calavi: a student detained after accusations of assault on a child
The University of Abomey-Calavi was the scene of a serious incident involving a student and an eight-year-old boy.
According to information relayed by the newspaper “Le Héraut”, the child, described as a young beggar who regularly frequents the areas around the campus, was reportedly approached by the student before the alleged events occurred.
People present at the scene say they intervened quickly, which allowed the alleged act to be stopped. The student was then taken to the rectorate where he was held while initial checks were carried out by the internal security service. The child reported having been subjected to violence, which led to the immediate opening of an investigation.
Informed by campus security officers, police from the Calavi Zoca station went to the scene to take charge of the suspect and continue the investigations. The case was handed over to the competent authorities in order to determine responsibility and to ensure the protection of the alleged victim.
Social services and specialized support organizations should be called upon to assist the child in the next steps of the proceedings.
