UCL: Atlético Madrid mocks Barça after Barça’s qualification
After a tight duel, Atlético Madrid eliminated Barça in the Champions League, before mocking its rival on social media. An ironic post that targets Lamine Yamal in particular and symbolises Catalan frustration.

Atlético Madrid not only booked its ticket to the Champions League semi-finals: the Madrid club used the moment to taunt FC Barcelona and its prodigy Lamine Yamal, after a showdown as intense as it was closely contested on Tuesday night. Despite their 2-1 comeback win in the return leg, the Catalans exit the competition, defeated on aggregate over the two legs. A cruel outcome for Hansi Flick’s men, who had long unsettled the Colchoneros after having been 2-0 up in the first leg.
Under pressure at the Cívitas Metropolitano, Diego Simeone’s players managed to withstand Barça’s onslaught to preserve their qualification. A tense scenario, marked by Barça’s resurgence, without quite managing to overturn the situation. This new success adds a little more to Simeone’s name in the competition’s history: the Argentine coach becomes the first to eliminate Barça multiple times in knockout rounds, after 2014, 2016 and now 2026.
In the wake of that, the Madrid club did not miss the chance to taunt its rival. On its social networks, Atlético shared a viral meme showing a lion ready to pounce… before revealing a harmless little dog. A mocking sequence clearly aimed at Barça, deemed impressive in appearance but ultimately harmless in the end. Qualified for the semi-finals, Atlético now awaits its next opponent. Arsenal hold the edge against Sporting CP, while the other half of the draw could offer a blockbuster clash between Paris Saint-Germain and the winner of the tie between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
