Nearly three decades after the death of Tupac Shakur, the American justice system has delivered its verdict in one of the most high-profile criminal cases in hip-hop history. Duane “Keffe D” Davis, a former influential member of the Crips gang from South Side Compton, has been found guilty of the murder of the renowned American rapper. After less than three hours of deliberation, the 12 jurors in Las Vegas declared Davis, aged 63, guilty of first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon, by unanimous decision.

Tupac Shakur was fatally shot in September 1996 in Las Vegas at the age of 25. His death led to numerous theories and speculations, and the investigation remained largely inconclusive for years. The verdict against Davis marks the first conviction in this case, which is nearly 30 years old. He now faces a sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. The former gang leader, who has always maintained his innocence, does not intend to accept the verdict. After the announcement, he informed the judge that he plans to “appeal.”
