Tunisia: growth slows in the second quarter despite agriculture and services
The Tunisian economy continued to progress in the second quarter of 2026, but at a slower pace than at the beginning of the year. The gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 2.3% year-on-year, notably supported by agriculture and services, while mining activities and hydrocarbons weighed on overall performance.

Tunisian growth was set at 2.3% year-on-year between April and June 2026, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) on August 15. This pace marks a slowdown from the 2.6% recorded in the first quarter.
The deceleration is even more pronounced year-on-year. In the second quarter of 2025, the Tunisian economy had grown by 3.4%. The increase observed in the second quarter of 2026 remains positive, but indicates a loss of momentum in several productive sectors.
Agriculture and services contributed to sustaining activity during the period. However, these two sectors did not offset the decline in mining activities and hydrocarbons, which continued to reduce the overall GDP growth.
The INS report thus confirms a contrasting evolution of the Tunisian economy: some branches maintained their activity, while extractive industries and hydrocarbon production hindered the acceleration of growth. Detailed data from the second quarter should clarify the contribution of each sector to this performance.
