“The idea of returning to Liverpool scares me,” Salah on the death of Diogo Jota
Diogo Jota’s teammate at Liverpool, Mohamed Salah, also commented on the Portuguese player’s tragic death in a car accident. The Egyptian international paid a heartfelt tribute to the late player.

Deeply affected by the tragic loss of Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah expressed his emotion in a message published this Friday. The Egyptian striker from Liverpool shared that he now dreaded the return to the club after the summer break, as the shock is massive.
“I am truly speechless,” Salah wrote. “Until yesterday, I would have never thought that there could be something that would make me fearful of returning to Liverpool after the holidays. Teammates come and go, but not like this.”
Diogo Jota, 28 years old, lost his life on Thursday in a car accident while he was heading to the UK. The vehicle caught on fire, also causing the death of his younger brother, André Silva.
“It’s going to be extremely difficult to accept that Diogo won’t be there when we return. My thoughts go out to his wife, his children, and of course, his parents who lost both of their sons in one night. Diogo and André’s loved ones need all the support possible. They will never be forgotten”, Salah continued.
Arriving from Wolverhampton in 2020, Diogo Jota quickly found his place within the Reds’ attack. With Salah, he notably contributed to the club’s successes: a Premier League title, an FA Cup, an EFL Cup, and a Champions League final played in 2022.
