Regional cooperation: the ECOWAS Representative received by the President of the HAAC
The President of the Haute Autorité de l’Audiovisuel et de la Communication (HAAC), Édouard C. Loko, received in audience on Monday, November 10, 2025 in Cotonou the Resident Representative of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Benin, H.E. Amadou Diongue.
This meeting is part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between ECOWAS and national media regulatory institutions.
Discussions focused on several topics of mutual interest, notably freedom of the press, the responsibility of the media in consolidating peace, and the challenges of communication in the digital age.
H.E. Amadou Diongue praised the decisive role of the HAAC in preserving social cohesion and promoting freedom of expression in Benin. He stressed that “freedom and responsibility remain the two pillars of balanced communication,” insisting on the need to adapt communication policies to the expectations of an increasingly connected youth.
“For me, it is a duty with regard to what we consider to be the safeguarding of our relationship with freedom of the press, but also with the responsibility of the press.
An authority is created only because there are freedoms to preserve and responsibilities to remind people of,” declared the West African diplomat.
President Édouard Loko, for his part, reaffirmed the HAAC’s readiness to continue collaboration with ECOWAS, in order to promote professional, ethical communication that serves regional stability.
This audience illustrates the shared intent of the two institutions to consolidate a strategic partnership based on transparency, accountability and the promotion of the media’s role in democratic development.
