The former Madrid striker, Gareth Bale, believes that Xabi Alonso’s inability to manage the egos of the locker room hastened his dismissal from the Real Madrid bench.
The former Real Madrid forward, Gareth Bale, has spoken about Xabi Alonso’s recent dismissal, sidelined from his coaching post after only one season on the Madrid bench. According to the Welshman, Alonso’s failure can be explained primarily by his difficulty in dealing with the strong personalities present in the Real Madrid locker room. Arrived last year to succeed Carlo Ancelotti, the former midfielder failed to establish himself permanently at Santiago-Bernabéu.
“At Real Madrid, you have to know how to manage the egos and appease them. Tactics, at times, take a back seat,” Bale explained in an interview with TNT, reported by The Real Champs. “In this locker room, there are superstars capable of turning a match in an instant. Xabi Alonso is an excellent coach and a great tactician, but in Madrid, evidently, it didn’t work.”
And the former Welsh international added: “You have to be able to control this group, and that is something very particular to Real Madrid.” After the departure of the former Madrid man, Real Madrid appointed Alvaro Arbeloa to take over on an interim basis.
