Porto-Novo: March of Recognition in Honor of President Talon
On Thursday, July 10, 2025, the active forces of Porto-Novo mobilized to express their gratitude to President Patrice Talon for the initiatives launched in the capital.

At the initiative of patriarch Karim Urbain da Silva, the march started from the esplanade of the National Assembly and traveled through the symbolic arteries of the city.
Supported by notables, crowned heads, religious dignitaries, and citizens from various backgrounds, the procession made a stop at the memorial of the late Akpako, also known as Ogagbami, located in Adomè. A prayer was said under the guidance of MITO Akplogan for peace in Porto-Novo, the health of patriarch da Silva, and the success of the presidential actions.
Throughout the march, the protesters held up messages expressing their support for the ongoing projects and their rejection of what they see as futile opposition. At the town hall, an official message was delivered by Mr. Gratien Koukoui, commending the government’s efforts in the sectors of infrastructure, housing, cultural heritage, and development.
The initiatives mentioned include the revitalization of Ahouangbo market, the construction of the Cité départementale, the dual carriageway Sèmè-Porto-Novo, as well as the under-construction headquarters of the National Assembly.
In the absence of the mayor, the third deputy received the message and praised the commitment of patriarch Karim da Silva, known for his long-standing fight for the development of Porto-Novo.
