According to information relayed by BIP Radio, checks were carried out at the border posts of Hillacondji, Hounsahoué and Sèmè-Kraké, as well as at the port of Cotonou, at the international airport and on the Porto-Novo lagoon.

Between September 7 and 20, the units involved carried out systematic checks on nearly 18,000 people and around 4,500 vehicles. About ten vessels were also screened.

The report revealed several irregularities and the seizure of 19 stolen cars, most of which had been reported stolen in Canada, as well as three motorcycles.

These vehicles were intercepted as they tried to enter Benin or to transit through the country.

The teams also detained a Cameroonian national carrying a fake American passport, a document he used to present himself as a refugee.

On the anti-drug front, a major seizure was recorded by the Sèmè-Podji Police Station: more than half a ton of cannabis was recovered during the operation. Law enforcement also seized an automatic pistol.

According to the Republican Police, this measure is part of a broader effort to secure borders and combat cross-border criminal activity, while flows of goods and travelers remain particularly intense along these corridors.
