Omah Lay: “Afrobeats is in decline internationally.”

The singer Omah Lay believes that Afrobeats is experiencing a decline, particularly in Western markets. During his Warehouse session held in Lagos on Thursday evening, the artist explained that the international enthusiasm around the genre, which had been especially strong in recent years, tended to wane. Abroad, Afrobeats is in decline. That’s a fact. Our artists are doing very well, but the Afrobeats you knew between 2020 and 2024 is no longer the same, he said.

Omah Lay also said that he is actively working to evolve his style, drawing inspiration from his idols in order to contribute to a renewal of the genre. Convinced of the impact of his music, he believes it could push his peers to raise their game and restore Afrobeats to its full international reach.
