Official: Rodri signs with Barça
Long rumored to join Real Madrid, Rodri has ultimately headed to Catalonia. FC Barcelona officially announced the arrival of the Spanish midfielder, the 2026 World Champion and named Best Player of the last World Cup, on Tuesday.

FC Barcelona makes a significant move in the transfer market. The Catalan club announced the agreement with Manchester City for the recruitment of Rodri, who has signed until June 2030. The operation is estimated at 60 million euros, with potentially an additional 16.5 million euros in bonuses. At 30 years old, the Spanish international represents a major reinforcement for Barça. Voted Best Player of the 2026 World Cup, Rodri played a central role in La Roja’s victory, dictating the pace of the game with his technical mastery and tactical intelligence.
This arrival also represents a nice coup for FC Barcelona, which has managed to outpace its great Madrid rival. Real Madrid had long made Rodri a priority to strengthen its midfield and seemed to have gained an edge in negotiations. Ultimately, Barça turned the tide thanks to a behind-the-scenes offensive, with notable involvement from Hansi Flick and the support of several Spanish internationals playing in Barcelona. After seven seasons at Manchester City, 298 matches, and 14 trophies, including a Champions League and four Premier League titles, Rodri is returning to Spain. But this time, it will be in the blaugrana colors.
