At the end of the discussions, the public prosecutor requested a five-year prison sentence for each of the two defendants, with three years of that being without parole, along with a fine of one million CFA francs.

The defendants deny the charges

In court, the GSM network agent and the student categorically denied the charges against them. To support their defense, both accused claimed they had purchased their second-hand mobile phones without knowing that these devices contained data and files related to cybercriminal activities.

Despite this line of defense based on good faith during the purchase of the phones, the special prosecutor deemed the elements constituting the offense to be sufficiently characterized to make his requests.

The court’s ruling will ultimately determine the fate of the two defendants. While awaiting the court’s decision, both accused continue their time in detention.
