Michael Kayode has confirmed his intention to represent Italy at senior level, despite his dual eligibility with Nigeria. The Brentford FC defender, who previously came through ACF Fiorentina, now hopes to take a step forward with the Italy national team and feature soon in Luciano Spalletti’s plans.
Michael Kayode has made his decision about his international future. The Brentford FC defender has stated his desire to represent Italy at the highest level, despite Nigeria’s interest. Born in Borgomanero to Nigerian parents, the right-back remains eligible to wear the Super Eagles’ colors. But after having progressed through all the steps with the Italian youth teams, Kayode has not hidden his desire to pursue his adventure with the Italy national team.
The former Fiorentina player has reaffirmed his attachment to the Italian jersey in an interview with Tuttosport. « I will always put Italy first. I grew up wearing the Azzurri jersey in the youth teams, and I hope to realize this dream as soon as possible», the 21-year-old said. Having delivered notable performances this season in the Premier League, Kayode could soon reach another level. The defender is tipped to join Luciano Spalletti’s next squad ahead of friendlies against Luxembourg and Greece in June.
