Municipal elections 2026: Moele Bénin, FCBE and Les Démocrates finalize their candidate registration files
The political parties Mouvement des Élites Engagées pour l’Émancipation du Bénin (Moele Bénin), Forces Cauris pour un Bénin Émergent (FCBE) and Les Démocrates completed the regularization of their candidacy declaration files on Friday, November 7, 2025, for the municipal elections on January 11, 2026.

This step marks an important advance in the electoral process, as it complies with the legal requirements set out in Article 41 of the Electoral Code. That article provides that if deficiencies are found in a file, the Commission électorale nationale autonome (CENA) notifies the parties concerned and grants them a period of seventy-two working hours to remedy them.
At the end of the first phase of the completeness review of the files, Moele Bénin, FCBE and Les Démocrates received their provisional receipt, along with a list of missing documents, on Monday, November 3.
The political parties met the deadline by submitting, before it expired, the required supplementary documents, notably sworn declarations, criminal record certificates and personal identification certificates for certain candidates.
By this action, the three parties demonstrate their willingness to comply with the law’s requirements and to fully participate in next January’s municipal vote, a decisive step in consolidating decentralization in Benin.
