Aware of these risks, the Union nationale des médias en ligne du Bénin (UNaMEL-Bénin) has chosen to act proactively by launching an initiative aimed at strengthening the rigor applied to information handling.

The umbrella organization has launched a series of training sessions for journalists, community broadcasters and digital media promoters. Its goal is to equip them with concrete tools to analyze, verify and authenticate content before publication.

This approach aims to improve professionals’ ability to identify misinformation, curb excesses and help preserve a peaceful social climate during this sensitive electoral period.

A guest on Grand Direct on Radio Sêdohoun, Paul Danongbé, spokesperson for UNaMEL-Bénin, detailed the scope of the initiative. He emphasized the strategic importance of responsible and professional information handling in a context where every piece of content disseminated can influence public opinion or heighten tensions.

By focusing on training and anticipation, UNaMEL-Bénin intends to strengthen the role of the media as guarantors of reliability, vigilance and stability during the upcoming electoral cycle.

An approach that helps secure public debate and maintain citizens’ trust in their information sources.
