Manchester United has officially parted ways with Ruben Amorim. The Manchester club announced the sacking of its Portuguese manager the day after the 1-1 draw with Leeds United, on Sunday in the Premier League.

This decision comes in a tense context, a few hours after Amorim’s explosive comments at a press conference. Visibly annoyed, the 40-year-old coach publicly addressed the Red Devils’ hierarchy, urging them to “do their job,” remarks that apparently hastened his departure.

In a statement, Manchester United explains this choice by sporting considerations: “While the team is currently sixth in the Premier League, the board, reluctantly, has decided that a change was necessary in order to give the club the best chance of finishing the season in the best possible position.”

Having arrived at Old Trafford fourteen months ago, Ruben Amorim leaves the club at the end of a tumultuous spell, marked by irregular results and an increasingly fragile relationship with the board. After twenty league matches, Manchester United sit in sixth place in the table, far from their initial ambitions.
