“It’s poverty,” Peter Okoye reveals his greatest fear.

Peter Okoye, a member of the famous Nigerian duo P-Square, shared the main fear that accompanies him in life. During an interview on Monday with Nancy Isime’s show, the singer assured that death does not frighten him. However, the artist explained that a painful experience from his childhood had profoundly shaped his perception of life: poverty. “I am not afraid of death. The only thing that scares me in this life is poverty. It’s being broke,” he stated.

Peter Okoye then reflected on the financial difficulties his family faced when he was younger. He recounted witnessing the destruction of their family home by a bulldozer. “I have experienced it. I was at my parents’ house when a bulldozer came and demolished the house,” he explained. The singer also described the extremely difficult living conditions of his family during that time. “We lived in a one-room apartment with my father and the whole family. Six boys and two girls lived in a one-room apartment,” he recounted.

Faced with the lack of space, the family had to arrange their living situation in a rudimentary way. “They had to separate the room with a curtain. Then the landlord sold the land, and we tried to convince him to give us some time,” Peter Okoye continued. Despite their efforts, the family ultimately could not prevent the destruction of their home. “We were at home when a bulldozer came and leveled everything. We have already known poverty,” the singer concluded. This personal experience explains why he now views precariousness as far more frightening than death.
