Hêvié: a recipient of presidential grace arrested in the middle of a flight on a construction site
In Benin, a man recently released following a pardon granted by President Romuald Wadagni has been arrested again.

The suspect was caught red-handed for theft on the evening of Friday, August 7, 2026, around 8 PM, in the Alassancomè neighborhood, located in the Hêvié district.
Caught in the act thanks to a neighbor’s vigilance
Entering by climbing over the fence of a construction site, the individual headed towards a water pump intended for water extraction with the intention of stealing it. However, his actions were interrupted by a resident who was intrigued by suspicious movements around the property.
Immediately alerted by this neighbor, the property owner caught the perpetrator in the act, forcing him to freeze before his arrest.
Taken to the Hêvié police station for an identity check, the man’s past was quickly uncovered by the records of the Republican Police. The checks confirmed that he was a former inmate who had just been released from prison after receiving the presidential pardon. He is now back in the hands of justice to answer for these new offenses.
