G7 Summit: Donald Trump shortens his stay for an emergency in Washington
In an unexpected move, Donald Trump abruptly left the G7 summit in Canada on the night of Monday, June 16 to Tuesday, June 17, citing “compelling reasons”, according to his spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt.
The American president signed the joint G7 declaration before his departure, despite his initial reluctance, especially about calls for peace in the Middle East region.
“The president is going back to Washington to tackle many important issues“, Karoline Leavitt stated in a brief announcement.
Mr. Trump’s departure, initially scheduled for Tuesday after a closing press conference, fueled speculation about his connection to the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, engaged in open warfare for five consecutive nights.
Diplomatic confusion and verbal jousting with Emmanuel Macron
While French President Emmanuel Macron has asserted that an American offer to dialogue with Iran had been put on the table, even mentioning a possible ceasefire, Donald Trump reacted vehemently.
“Emmanuel Macron, to get publicity, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit to work on a ceasefire. Wrong! It’s much bigger than that. Intentionally or not, Emmanuel never understands anything“, he posted on Truth Social, his social network.
This statement contradicts the Elysée’s version, which said diplomatic efforts were underway between Washington and Tehran.
Meanwhile, the missile war between Israel and Iran is intensifying. For the fifth consecutive night, the two nations exchanged massive strikes and threats of retaliation.
Iran announced “non-stop strikes until dawn” in response to new Israeli attacks targeting the Iranian state television among other strategic infrastructures. The Israeli army also issued a temporary air alert in Tel Aviv and Beersheva early Tuesday, quickly lifted a few moments later.
In this context, Donald Trump’s call for Tehran residents to “immediately evacuate” has sown confusion and heightened concerns about a potential regional flare-up.
“Iran should have signed the deal when I told them to sign. What a pity and waste of human lives “, he further wrote on Truth Social.
