CRIET: Steve Amoussou’s appeal trial postponed to December 15
The appeal trial of Steve Amoussou was held briefly this Monday, December 1, 2025, before the Court for the Repression of Economic Offenses and Terrorism.
The defendant will know in two weeks whether the sentence handed down at first instance will be upheld or overturned.
The hearing opened in a measured atmosphere, without any real substantive debate. His lawyer, Me Aboubacar Baparapé, had already explained on Bip Radio that the case was indeed on the docket, while acknowledging the uncertainty that sometimes surrounds the actual holding of certain hearings. He recalled that his job is to dismantle, point by point, the decision made by the first judge.
According to judicial sources, the Court postponed the decision to December 15, 2025. Steve Amoussou, extradited from Togo in August 2024, was sentenced on June 2, 2025 to two years in prison and a fine of two million CFA francs. He is being prosecuted for incitement to rebellion, dissemination of false information and harassment by electronic means.
December 15 is now the next turning point for the case, which has been drawing public attention for several months.
