Gianni Infantino has been invited by the African Football Confederation (CAF) to a strategic conference bringing together the presidents of the 54 African federations on October 7 and 8 in Cape Verde. The meeting will focus on the development of continental football and the competitiveness of member associations.

The invitation was sent this week to the federations by CAF, according to a letter reviewed by Reuters and confirmed by member associations. CAF President Patrice Motsepe has previously mentioned the organization of this strategic meeting on several occasions.

The agenda includes discussions on strengthening African competitions, developing players and coaches, and exploring ways to enhance the continent’s competitiveness. Members of the CAF executive committee and officials from regional unions are also expected to attend.

The proceedings will continue on October 9 with a review of the 2026 World Cup involving African coaches and members of FIFA’s technical study group led by Arsène Wenger. Ten African teams participated in the 2026 World Cup.

The conference comes six months ahead of FIFA’s presidential election scheduled for March 2027. Infantino has confirmed his intention to seek re-election, while no opponents have officially declared their candidacy yet.
