Benin: The Democrats rule out any parliamentary agreement for the legislative elections
The party Les Démocrates (LD) has made its decision. Meeting in a national council on Friday, November 8, 2025, the party decided unanimously not to conclude any parliamentary agreement with another political formation ahead of the upcoming legislative elections.

This decision dispels persistent rumours about possible electoral alliances with the political blocs of the movement. It underscores a clear desire for political autonomy, according to party officials.
The meeting brought together the main internal currents, from the wing described as radical close to Boni Yayi to the more moderate one around Houndété. All endorsed the line adopted by the leadership: preserving the party’s identity and ideological coherence, even in the face of the strategic stakes of the upcoming elections.
Les Démocrates thus intend to consolidate their national foothold without being drawn into political calculations deemed contrary to their principles. Several party officials believe that such a choice clarifies the party’s stance and strengthens its credibility with public opinion.
