Benin: the Board of Directors of Tanguiéta leaves Joseph Djogbénou’s party
The district chief of Tanguiéta, Ikoukomon Mohamed, is no longer a member of the Progressive Union The Renewal (UPR) party. In a letter dated July 6, 2025, he officially announced his resignation from the political formation led by Joseph Djogbénou, according to a publication by Matin Libre.
In his correspondence addressed to the party’s leadership, Ikoukomon Mohamed justifies his decision by a fundamental disagreement with the current directions of the UPR. “My vision of political engagement, governance, and citizen participation no longer aligns with the directions the party is taking,” he writes.
The former activist asserts that this decision, carefully considered, is part of a desire to be consistent with his personal beliefs. He also speaks of a changing political context, characterized by an increasing demand for transparency, proximity, and pluralism. “My approach is guided by my concern to remain consistent with my principles and to position myself freely in a changing political environment,” he clarifies.
Still attached to the ideals of progress, social justice, and harmonious development, Ikoukomon Mohamed thus turns a page of his commitment within the UPR, without indicating whether he intends to join another political formation.
This resignation comes in a context where several critical voices are rising even within the majority parties to denounce political lines judged disconnected from local realities.
