Benin: nearly 100 kg of counterfeit medicines seized by the police in Adjarra
A nighttime operation led by First Class Police Commissioner Dombouri Rachad and his team resulted in the interception of a large stock of counterfeit pharmaceutical products on the night of Sunday, November 9 to Monday, November 10, 2025 in Adjarra, in the Ouémé department.
Around 4 a.m., based on precise intelligence, law enforcement raided an abandoned house in the Houegbo neighborhood. Three individuals were found on site: one on lookout duty, the other two inside the premises where the falsified products were stored.
The traffickers tried to flee when the police arrived, abandoning on site a motorcycle registered “2 AX 0252 RB” as well as all of the merchandise.
The seized stock is estimated at about 100 kg of counterfeit medicines, carefully packaged and ready to be put on the local market.
According to police services, the merchandise was stored in a clandestine depot used by a network specializing in the sale of illicit pharmaceutical products.
This operation is part of the national strategy to combat the trafficking of illicit medicines, a scourge that seriously threatens public health. From September to October 2025, the Republican Police reported strengthened results in this area, with operations that led to the interception of several tonnes of falsified or spoiled products.
An investigation has been opened to identify those responsible for the network, determine the origin of the products and trace all the channels involved. Authorities also call on the public to be vigilant: any medicine obtained outside official channels poses a serious risk.
This new seizure in Adjarra serves as a clear warning against the illicit trafficking of medicines and reinforces the commitment of law enforcement to protect citizens’ health.
