Benin – Benjamin Hounkpatin reassures: “No resurgence of COVID-19”
Minister Benjamin Hounkpatin has formally denied the existence of a COVID‑19 resurgence in the country.

In a statement published on 3 November 2025, he noted that the recent rises in respiratory infections are more consistent with a seasonal flu outbreak than with COVID‑19.
According to the statement, the rapid diagnostic tests deployed across all departments have been negative for COVID‑19 to date. Analyses instead indicate increased circulation of influenza viruses associated with the rainy seasons, the harmattan and high mobility.
Minister Hounkpatin also urges the public not to give in to rumors, to reinforce barrier measures (handwashing, airing indoor spaces, wearing a mask when coughing) and to avoid self-medication. He assures that the national epidemiological surveillance system remains fully operational.
