Benin: a Bloc Républicain MP targeted by a complaint before the Special Court for Land Affairs
In Benin, a deputy from the Bloc Républicain (BR), elected in the 6th electoral constituency (Calavi, Sô-Ava and Zè), is at the center of proceedings brought before the Special Court for Land Affairs (CSAF).

According to information reported by Matin Libre, the elected official is the subject of a complaint with the constitution of a civil party for a case described as “parcel fraud,” an accusation he will be able to contest during the proceedings.
The case concerns the transfer of an undeveloped plot of about one hectare, located in Djogbé-Zoungo, in the Hêvié district, Abomey-Calavi municipality. The sale price was reportedly set at 16 million CFA francs.
According to the newspaper’s sources, the Tchin community would contest the parliamentarian’s ownership rights to the land in question. The buyer, too, is said to have expressed doubts about the validity of the documents related to the transaction.
In light of these uncertainties, the latter reportedly wrote by letter to the BR party president, Abdoulaye Bio Tchané, as well as to the President of the Republic, Patrice Talon.
The CSAF will have to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to establish responsibility in this land matter, in a region where property disputes remain frequent.
