In the presence of the Minister of Justice, Yvon Détchénou, the deputies examined and adopted several bills covering strategic areas of national life.

Five essential points were on the agenda. These included the ratification of two international agreements, the reform of the criminal procedure code, the revision of the law on nationality of Afro-descendants, and the amendment of the law on the identification of individuals.

Among the ratified texts, the agreement establishing the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is included. Joining this organization will enable Benin to strengthen its commitment to green growth and the fight against climate change.

The deputies also approved additional protocols to the Abidjan Convention related to sustainable shoreline management, mangrove protection, and the fight against land-based pollution from offshore sources. A significant advance in environmental governance.

On the legal front, the Assembly adopted in the second reading the new Code of Criminal Procedure. This text aims to modernize the Beninese judicial system, shorten case processing times, and improve access to justice for all.

Two administrative scope reforms were also validated. The first concerns the law on the nationality of Afro-descendants, whose application procedures have been revised to remove technical obstacles to its effectiveness. The second is about the identification of individuals, with adjustments aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of the civil registration system.

Through this session, Beninese deputies reaffirm their desire to adapt the legislative framework to contemporary challenges in a logic of sustainable development, administrative transparency, and fair justice.
