Sent off this weekend during Real Madrid’s defeat against Barça in the Copa del Rey final, Antonio Rüdiger now faces a suspension ranging from 4 to 12 matches.

This weekend’s Clasico, played as the Copa del Rey final, lived up to all expectations, delivering 120 minutes of electrifying football. Spectacular plays, beautiful goals, and ultimately, victory for the Blaugranas, who prevailed 3-2.

Jules Koundé emerged as the unlikely hero, scoring the decisive goal in extra time to secure the trophy for the Catalan side.

However, the defining moment of the match came after the final whistle, when Antonio Rüdiger’s fury toward referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea escalated into a shocking confrontation.

Frustrated by the referee’s decision to end the match immediately following a foul by Kylian Mbappé on Eric García, the German defender attempted to throw an ice bag at the official before being restrained by his teammates.

This outburst could prove costly. The German international faces a potential suspension of 4 to 12 matches under Article 101 of the RFEF disciplinary code, which covers serious offenses against match officials.

“My behavior last night was absolutely inexcusable,” the German international apologized on social media Sunday morning. “I am sincerely sorry. We played a very good game starting from the second half. After 111 minutes, I could no longer help my team and, before the final whistle, I made a mistake. I once again apologize to the referee and to everyone I disappointed last night.”
