Ghana: illegal ammunition shipment bound for Benin intercepted

- Publicité-

On the night of Friday, April 18, 2025, Ghanaian security forces carried out a major ammunition seizure at the Tadzewu-Mitsrikasa checkpoint, located in the Volta Region. The operation led to the interception of a bus traveling from Accra to Benin, which was transporting an illegal cargo of ammunition.

According to Ghanaian authorities, the quantity seized amounts to 33,000 rounds of ammunition. The munitions were hidden beneath luggage in a Hyundai vehicle bearing license plate GR 8246-Q. In total, 60 boxes of anti-aircraft ammunition (approximately 15,000 rounds) and 72 boxes of BB cartridges (about 18,000 rounds) were confiscated.

Two men on board the vehicle were arrested. Preliminary investigations have identified one of them as the main suspect responsible for loading the ammunition. The driver was released on bail, while the passenger—considered the primary suspect—remains in custody pending his court appearance on Tuesday, April 22.
