AFCON 2025: Osimhen threatens to quit the Super Eagles and return to Galatasaray
Despite the massive win by the Super Eagles against Mozambique (4-0) in the round of 16, Victor Osimhen expressed his frustration after an altercation with Ademola Lookman, before the Nigerian Football Federation managed to calm the situation.

The Super Eagles’ striker, Victor Osimhen, briefly cast doubt on his future with the Nigerian national team after a tense incident that occurred during the 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
According to Arise News, the 27-year-old forward is said to have entered into a heated altercation with Ademola Lookman in the second half. Despite a brace scored thanks to his teammate’s two decisive passes, Osimhen is said to have reproached him for not having fed him on a clear-cut chance in the 64th minute.
Clearly irritated, the Galatasaray forward reportedly asked to be substituted, before giving way to Moses Simon. At the final whistle, Osimhen left the pitch hastily, leaving behind his accreditation badge and expressing his frustration, going so far as to mention an immediate return to Turkey.
However, the situation was quickly defused. Senior officials of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) stepped in to calm the player and ease tensions within the squad, as Nigeria continued its run in the tournament.
