2026 presidential election: the Court postpones NDSS’s appeal against Michel Sodjinou to October 30
The Constitutional Court examined several appeals related to the ongoing electoral process this Monday morning, notably the one filed by Nourou-Dine Saka Saley (NDSS), a lawyer and founding member of the party Les Démocrates (LD).
In his petition, he asks the High Court to compel MP Michel Sodjinou to appear before it, in order to publicly explain the reasons for withdrawing his endorsement of the ticket presented by Les Démocrates.
While he acknowledges the parliamentarian’s right to freely endorse the candidate of his choice, Nourou-Dine Saka Saley nevertheless believes that this retraction had the effect of weakening his party’s candidacy, thereby depriving, in his view, thousands of Beninese of their constitutional right to choose their leader.
After examination, the Constitutional Court decided to adjourn the hearing to Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 10 a.m., for the continuation of the case.
This case takes place in a tense political context, marked by disputes from the party Les Démocrates after the invalidation of its duo’s candidacy for the 2026 presidential election, for lack of the required number of endorsements
