As the 12 April 2026 presidential election approaches, Paul Hounkpè, the FCBE’s national executive secretary and a declared candidate in the election, calls for mobilizing the opposition forces
In a statement released on March 12, 2026 and signed by the party’s administrative secretary, he invites political parties, civic organizations and public figures identifying themselves as part of the opposition to a consultative meeting scheduled in the near future.
This initiative aims to lay the foundations for a unified framework for dialogue, coordination and political action, dubbed ‘Coalition Forces for an Emergent Benin’. According to the communiqué, the ambition is to foster convergence of wills and to build a strategic unity capable of carrying a collective dynamic in service of the democratic aspirations of the Beninese people.
The proceedings of this assembly are expected to lead to the signing of an Opposition Charter. This reference document will set out the principles, values and common commitments of the political and civic forces involved in this process of bringing them together.
